AION 2 classes

How many classes are in AION 2? Eight at the global launch — two tanks, two healers and four damage dealers. Here is what each AION 2 class actually plays like, and how to pick one you won't regret at level 45.

The eight AION 2 classes at a glance

AION 2 follows the holy-trinity structure most MMORPG players know: someone holds the boss, someone keeps the group alive, and everyone else removes the health bar. What differs from older MMOs is how hybrid the roster is — one tank doubles as a damage dealer, one healer doubles as a buffer, and the line between "support" and "DPS" is deliberately blurry. All eight classes are playable on both factions and share the same leveling content; the choice is about playstyle, not about locking content away.

Every AION 2 class explained

Gladiator

Tank / Melee DPS

Two-handed sword

The hybrid of the roster: a melee fighter that can hold its own in front of a boss but also puts out real damage. Community guides consistently recommend Gladiator for players who want a forgiving first character — you learn melee positioning without being responsible for holding aggro like a dedicated tank.

Templar

Main tank

Sword and shield

The classic sword-and-board protector: high health, damage mitigation and the aggro-management tools groups need. In the launch-window grouping economy — where dungeons need a tank and healers are scarce — Templars get invited fast.

Assassin

Melee DPS (burst)

Dual daggers

A burst-window melee damage dealer built around stealth, positioning and timing. Higher skill floor than the ranged damage classes: your output depends on hitting your windows from the right angle, which makes it a favorite of experienced action-combat players rather than first-timers.

Ranger

Ranged DPS

Bow

The mobile, easy-to-learn physical damage class. You fight at range, keep moving, and rarely get caught by mechanics designed for melee. Community consensus puts Ranger among the best solo-leveling classes and a safe pick if you are new to MMORPGs.

Sorcerer

Ranged magic DPS

Magic orb / spellbook

The glass cannon: fire and frost damage at range with some of the highest numbers in the game — paid for with low survivability if enemies reach you. A good pick if you enjoy managing distance and cooldowns, and a punishing one if you stand in the wrong place.

Elementalist

Ranged magic DPS (summoner)

Elemental spirits

A summoner that fights through elemental spirits rather than its own spell rotation. Generally described as a relaxed, pet-assisted playstyle with steady damage — a common recommendation for players who want a lower-intensity magic class.

Cleric

Main healer

Mace / staff

The primary healer: direct heals, cleanses and resurrection. Every endgame dungeon group needs one, healers are the scarcest role in the launch-window matchmaking pool, and community guides flag Cleric as the class with the fastest dungeon queue times.

Chanter

Support / healer

Staff

The utility support: heals through mantras and buffs rather than raw direct healing, trading some healing throughput for party-wide utility. More forgiving than Cleric for players who want to support without carrying the whole group's survival.

Brawler: the ninth class, not yet on global

AION 2's roadmap already has a ninth class: Brawler, a melee fighter that shipped alongside the Chapter 1 update ("Lands of Sand and Snow") on the Korean and Taiwanese servers in July 2026. The global servers launched in October 2026 without it, and NC has not announced a global release date — so we mark Brawler as not yet announced instead of quoting a date we can't verify. When it lands, this page gets updated the same week.

How to choose your AION 2 class

Three honest filters, in order:

  1. Who do you want to be in a group? If you plan to run dungeons and raids, tanks and healers are chronically scarce — Templar, Cleric and Chanter players get invited quickly and queue almost instantly. Damage dealers wait longer but outnumber everyone, which also means the competition for raid slots is stiffer.
  2. How much do you play alone? Solo leveling favors classes that kill fast without dying fast: Ranger, Sorcerer and Elementalist are the common recommendations. Melee classes clear content fine but take more mechanical punishment while learning.
  3. What's your skill floor tolerance? Assassin is the high-ceiling, high-effort pick; Ranger and Elementalist are the low-effort picks; everything else sits between. Picking a hard class as your first character is the most common way players bounce off the game — the reverse almost never happens.

One caveat we want to be straight about: whether AION 2 lets you change class on an existing character is something we haven't verified against primary sources, so treat your choice as permanent until we can confirm otherwise. The community-documented progression systems (skill point refunds, gear inheritance) soften build mistakes — but not class mistakes.

AION 2 classes FAQ

How many classes are in AION 2?
Eight at global launch: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Elementalist, Cleric and Chanter. A ninth — Brawler — is already live on Korean and Taiwanese servers since the July 2026 Chapter 1 update; no global date has been announced.
What is the best class for beginners in AION 2?
Ranger is the most common recommendation: ranged, mobile, easy to learn. Gladiator works if you prefer melee; Cleric or Templar if you want instant dungeon queues and plan to play grouped content. Avoid starting on Assassin unless you already know you enjoy high-execution melee.
Which AION 2 classes are tanks and healers?
Templar is the dedicated main tank, Gladiator blends tank and melee DPS, Cleric is the main healer, and Chanter is the mantra-based support healer. The other four classes are pure damage dealers.
Is the Brawler class playable in AION 2 global?
Not yet — it launched with Chapter 1 on KR/TW servers in July 2026, and NC has not announced its global release window. This page updates as soon as that changes.
