How to play Fart Together with friends, in five steps
-
01
Get the demo
Download the free Fart Together demo from its Steam store page — it includes the online co-op courses, so the full game isn't needed to play with friends.
-
02
Launch and pick co-op
Start the demo and choose the online co-op mode. The exact menu names follow the demo build — if a label differs from guides you've read, the in-game UI is the source of truth.
-
03
Bring your friends in
Co-op runs through Steam: invite from your friends list or share a lobby the way the game presents it. Fart Together supports 2–4 players on one raft.
-
04
Get on voice
Coordination is the whole game. The developer runs an official Discord (discord.com/invite/farttogether), and any voice chat works — timing calls matter more than fast fingers.
-
05
Fart together, literally
Pick a moment, count it down, push together. Per the store page: "The secret isn't farting harder. It's farting together at the right time."
Written against the free demo as of October 22, 2026 — the demo carries the online co-op courses, and Early Access launches October 29, 2026.
Controls and what they do
Direction
Where you push decides where the raft goes. Push opposite ways as a team and the raft argues with itself — the store page calls this out as the classic friendship-ender.
Timing
When you push matters as much as where. Courses mix narrow passages, sharp turns and moving obstacles, and the fix is usually a synchronized push at the right beat.
Gas power
How hard you push changes speed and momentum. Sometimes the run needs a burst, sometimes a brake — max power at the wrong moment is a disaster with sound effects.
Playable with keyboard or controller — the Steam page lists Xbox and PlayStation DualSense controller support. Specific key bindings follow the in-game options menu.
What changes when Early Access starts
The five steps above work for the demo today and won't stop working on October 29 — Early Access simply replaces the demo with the developers' current full version. What grows from there, per the store page: more courses, more obstacles, new modes, new characters and customization options, tuned over roughly two to three months of Early Access with feedback from Steam discussions, the Discord community and player surveys. The one big addition still in development is Team Race, a competitive mode planned for after the first Early Access build. When it lands, the "assign a caller" habit from the tips below becomes even more important — racing another raft is coordination under pressure.
Teamwork tips that keep the raft afloat
- — Appoint a caller. One voice calls "now" for pushes and releases; four people improvising is how rafts end up in the scenery.
- — Approach narrow passages slow and stacked up — line the raft up straight before anyone pushes.
- — For sharp turns, push in sequence rather than all at once: the front of the boat and the back of the boat do different jobs.
- — Agree on a stop signal before you need one. A raft nobody can halt is a raft nobody can steer.
- — When someone farts at the wrong time — and someone will — laugh and reset. The store page promises the game "may test your friendships"; the retries are the content.
- — Treat the first course as a warm-up lap. Learning each other's timing pays off more than any individual push.
Mistakes every first raft makes
Expect these in your first session — the store page basically promises them. Waiting for everyone to push "at the same time" by eyeballing it instead of counting down, so the raft overshoots the turn it was lining up for. Nobody calling a stop, so the boat drifts into a hazard while four players assume someone else is handling it. One player riding silently while the rest push, which turns the course into a three-player game with a passenger. And the classic: holding max gas through a narrow passage, when the course design — speed up here, slow down there, all together sometimes — is explicitly built to punish exactly that. All four are one voice call away from being fixed — and all four stop happening the moment your group stops treating it as a solo game with witnesses.
How to play FAQ
- How many players does Fart Together support?
- 2–4 players share one raft in online co-op, per the Steam store page. That shared-raft rule is the core of the game — there is no per-player boat to fall back on.
- Can you play Fart Together solo?
- The Steam page describes the game as 2–4 player co-op, so plan on at least one friend. A single-player mode isn't listed on the store page as of October 2026 — if that changes, it would show up there first.
- Does Fart Together have crossplay?
- No crossplay has been announced. The game is a Windows PC title on Steam, so co-op is between Steam players. Controller players and keyboard players can share the same raft — both Xbox and PlayStation DualSense controllers are supported.
- Does it have built-in voice chat?
- Voice chat hasn't been listed among the game's features on the store page. Use Discord or any voice call — the official Discord server is linked from the Steam page and doubles as the place to find partners.
- What's coming after launch?
- Early Access is planned to add more courses, obstacles, modes, characters and customization over roughly two to three months. A competitive Team Race mode is in development but is not part of the first Early Access build.
- Can you play Fart Together on the same screen?
- Local couch co-op isn't listed among the game's features — the Steam page lists online co-op only. Everyone will need their own PC and Steam account, connected over the internet, to share the same raft.
